We released version 1.12 of the blu-ray software this morning. Your player should get it the next time you power it on. Give it 30 seconds or so when you power it on and then you should see a message “One moment while we update your software . . .”. If the ClearPlay playback menu appears and you don’t see the update message then recycle the power on your player again. If that doesn’t work then you can go to Setup > System > Upgrade > Network, press the “ok” button and follow the prompts.
This release contains the following updates:
Defect 4 Fix: Player Freezes
The power button on the remote control should now be responsive, turning the player on and off. Additionally the player should not lock up after sitting idle or when it has been paused for any amount of time.
Persist ClearPlay Menu and WIFI Settings
The player will now persist the choices you have made on the ClearPlay menu (most filtering, least filtering, etc . . .) and the wifi network information. However this won’t take effect until the next update. In other words that information will be cleared during this update but will remain from here on out after additional upgrades.
Troubleshooting Tool: Display Disc ID
Pressing the “display” button when the player is at the ClearPlay playback screen will display the disc ID of the inserted disc. This will allow ClearPlay customer service representatives to know if a movie is found in the filter database or not.
I look forward to hearing your feedback. We couldn’t have made it this far without your help.
Enjoy the show!
Hi Scott, I’m not having any luck updating my player to 1.12. I did everything you instructed in your post, when I go to Setup> System > Upgrade > Network I get a message that says “No valid id found!”
Did exactly as it said, but not working! Our player keeps doing that anyway! Stops working, power button on remote won’t work to turn on but off only, then we must unplug machine, then SOMETIMES the power button on machine will power up but not always. Unable to get this update since machine won’t come back on now! Tried when it did, to walk through steps, but got message, “No valid id file found!” HELP!!
I think it may be the wifi connection. Can you tell me the exact steps you’ve taken to upgrade your player?
Had to reconnect to the WiFi twice, and it finally worked. Watching a movie now and the delay is still there too. Hear most of bad language before it mutes. Will that be fixed too?
Great! I’m glad you were able to update the player. Yes, the delay and filter timing are in progress now. We’re looking at having those fixed in the next 1 – 2 weeks.
Hi Scott, Forget my last post I tried the upgrade again and it was successful. Thank you.
OK, great!
When will the forward and reverse be fixed?
We’re shooting for another two weeks or so.
OK, I update and found a slight bug on accident. I was able to power on and off with the remote, however, once, I pushed the power button on the remote, but the disc drawer was in the middle of closing and my player is now trying to load a disc that isn’t there (spinning disc symbol is there in upper left) and won’t respond to anything.
Nice find! Thanks for taking the time to post it. I’ll add that to the list.
I successfully updated to 1.1.2. I go between setup and clearplay menu the power button on player on the remote become unresponsive. I have to unplug in order to get it working again.
To clarify further, all buttons on remote and player stop working after a minute. I have verified it is on 1.12.
OK, thanks Ken. Are you able to duplicate this every time you turn on the player? Also, when it first powers on it is looking for a new update and so it locks out all of the remote and faceplate commands. If it doesn’t find anything then it will load the movie. Do you see that happening as well?
This happens every time I turn the player on. It can have no disc in it and it still locks up after a couple minutes. At first I thought it was going between setup and anything else. That’s not true. I haven’t even tried with a disc yet. So I did these steps: Unplug and then start over, turn on. Leave alone…remote and controls on front of player stop working after a few minutes. unplug and replug again, go into setup and out. Turn off, it works. Turn on and leave alone. Stops working after a few minutes.
Ok, thanks for the step by step details. That will help me to reproduce it. One more question, Are you connected to internet via wifi or ethernet?
wifi…but very strong signal and fast N-Class router. FYI…it did not stop when we watched a movie tonight…maybe only if no disc is in and nothing happening?
Scott,
The update has really helped with the player freezing. Thanks. I have been trying to watch Divergent this evening, but the blu ray filters will not load. It will load the dvd filter for Divergent and play correctly. The ClearPlay site says that it is filtered on DVD, Blu-ray, and streaming. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Hi Kevin, thanks for reporting this. We’re working on this problem now. It looks like it is our algorithm that identifies the disc and matches it up with the filter. We’re only seeing it with Blu-ray discs. Try ejecting the tray a couple of times to see if the filter is found. If that doesn’t work then go to clearplay.com and download the individual filter for Divergent. That should work until we get a fix out for this bug.
Used ours extensiviely over the weekend with 1.12.
1) We watched Star Trek 2, 3, & 4 and on each of them, the muting was always delayed. So the timing is off on those DVDs.
Update was found and worked. So glad I don’t have to unplug and plug the clearplay any more. Watched “Get Smart” last night. Filtering caught everything but several times the screen froze for a couple of seconds before proceeding. Everything else is good so far (except the things you mentioned that are still being worked on).
Scott, I tested again. There is no freezing of remote and controls during playback. Only when no disc is in and I go into setup and the out again and then only after a couple minutes.
Thanks Ken! We’ve actually been spending the last few days trying to duplicate it and were finally able to duplicate it consistently yesterday. We’re working on the fix now and should have it fixed soon. Thanks again for reporting this and being detailed in the steps you followed!
Thanks Scott. Great to hear it wasn’t just me.
Scott,
This is off-topic, but is the 3D functionality of the player currently working? I don’t have a 3D TV yet, but I’m wondering if this is going to be a feature soon and also if there will be menu options for side-by-side/over-under output.
Thanks,
Dan
Hi Dan, I’m checking into it now. Give me a couple of days and I’ll have some answers for you. Thanks!
Hi Dan, we had a chance to run through some tests with 3D discs and I have some answers for you. The player supports 3D discs, however, a couple of changes need to be made to the software to enable playback for them. We’ve added that to our list of features to support. Additionally separate filters have to be created for 3D discs and at the moment ClearPlay is not creating those filters.
Thanks Scott. We’d mostly like to watch “family” movies in 3D anyway, such as Disney, etc. so I’d be willing to watch them without filtering. Hopefully the 3D functionality will be enabled even before Clearplay starts releasing filters for those movies.
My flash drive is not recognized.
I’m trying to watch “The Amazing Spiderman” and I downloaded all filters to it, but to no avail.
It just tells me nothing is connected (though it recognizes at the top of the screen) and then says no filter can be found.
How do I fix this?
Nevermind, I fixed this. I think it was my error
OK, great. What ended up being the problem?
I’m new to Clearplay so I wasn’t exactly sure what to do with the filter. When I tried to just put the “All Filters” folder on my flash drive, it would not find it.
After that I downloaded the single filter for “Amazing Spiderman” and it was in a folder and I put that folder on my flash drive. It still did not find it.
After that I simply put the actual filter files (not the whole folder) on the flash drive and it recognized it.
Also, is there a page that explains to me what each filter setting (most, medium, least) actually filters? Sorry for all the questions, I’m just new to the Clearplay community.

Hi Brian, at the moment we don’t have a detailed page that describes what each filtering level leaves in or takes out but it’s a good idea and something we’ll take a look at.
Watched Kon TiKi 2012 it has a filter but during play it skipped a scene and started looping I could not stop it because no fast forwarding at this time had to eject dvd and use scene selection on dvd menu to pass. I also had a hard freeze when while playing movie don’t know what caused it. It just stopped with a picture .
Thanks for the feedback. We’re testing the fix to the looping problem now and expect to have it out later this week in the 1.13 release.
Our player is still freezing and also many times it doesn’t recognize a filter is on the stick and we have to go download it manually for the single filter (last one was The Incredibles DVD) and also the video cuts out frequently and goes to a blank screen and comes back a few minutes later.
Hi David, thanks for the feedback. We’ve just released Version 1.14 which should fix these issues. When you have a moment can you try it out and let me what you see?
